Sir CV Raman was born on 7 November 1888 in the then Madras Presidency (Tamil Nadu) in British India. His father was a professor of mathematics and physics. CV Raman did his BA from the then Presidency College in Madras and got his MA in the same college and chose the main subject Physics.
When CV Raman turned to a government job due to lack of facilities to advance in science. He participated in the competitive examination of the Finance Department of the Government of India and got the first position.
After this, he worked as Assistant Accountant General in Kolkata in 1907 but due to his fondness for science, he continued to do research in the laboratories of the Indian Association for Cultivation of Science and the University of Calcutta here.
